Kupfer
Kupfer ist ein relativ hartes und sehr gut leitendes Schwermetall. Es zählt zu der gruppe der Nichteisenmetalle. Das chemische Symbol und eine gebräuchliche Abkürzung für Kupfer ist Cu. Die normale Farbe von Kupfer so wie es im allgemeinen verwendet und verbaut wird, ist hellrot. Kupfer lässt sich ausreichend gut mechanisch bearbeiten zum Beispiel drehen, fräsen und bohren.
Das Metall lässt sich sehr gut weichlöten und hartlöten allerdings nur bedingt schweißen. Kupfer erfreut sich aufgrund seiner optischen und nichtrostenden Eigenschaften im Handwerk, Industrie, Modellbau usw. großer Beliebtheit. In der Elektro Branche wird es aufgrund seiner guten Leitfähigkeit oft eingesetzt.
Wenn Kupfer über Jahre hinweg an der Luft ist, bildet sich Patina die das Metall vor weiterer Korrosion schützt (die Außenfarbe des Kupfers wandelt sich teilweise auch in Grün um). Kupfer ist elementarer Bestandteil der Erdhülle, allein der Kupfergehalt der Erdrinde beträgt durchschnittlich etwa 0,006 Prozent, wobei fast jeder Boden wenn auch z.T. nur in geringen Konzentrationen, Kupfer enthält. Das Element Kupfer kommt dabei in metallischem Zustand, als Bestandteil von Mineralien oder als Bestandteil unterschiedlicher chemischer Verbindungen vor. Kupfer ist das mit Abstand älteste Metall, das von Menschenhand bearbeitet und verwendet wurde. Mit Beginn der Kupferzeit erlangte es die wichtigste Bedeutung für die Menschheit, diese war in etwa von 3500 - 2200 v.Chr.. Aus Überlieferungen weiß man aber, dass bereits im Jahr 9000 v.Chr. die ersten Gegenstände aus Kupfer hergestellt wurden. Der Name Kupfer leitet sich ursprünglich von der griechischen Insel Zypern ab, welche im Altertum Rom und andere mediterrane Länder mit dem roten Metall versorgte. Die Römer nannten das Kupfer daraufhin Erz aus Zypern, auf lateinisch aes cyprium, später dann cuprum. Daraus leitet sich auch das Kürzel Cu ab, welches im Periodensystem der Elemente für Kupfer steht. Kupfer erfreut sich im Handwerk, Industrie, Modellbau usw. großer Beliebtheit.

These Cu braze fittings are suitable for connecting two pipes. The copper tube is inserted into the socket. Subsequently, the copper sleeves can be brazed or soft soldered. The soft copper tube is suitable for all applications in steam model making and for technical model making. The Cu pipe is also suitable for gasoline lines or diesel lines for motorcycles, tractors and vintage cars. The copper tube is very malleable and can be easily bent into narrow radii by hand.
